Schick Civil Construction Celebrate 50 years!

To celebrate 50 years, Schick hosted a family friendly party for all who have played a significant part in shaping the company since inception.

October 2023 marked 50 years since the company that we know today as Schick Civil Construction started from humble beginnings.

It was in 1973 when Lindsay Schick, in partnership with his wife Jeanette and trading as LG & JH Schick, started as an owner driver in Davies Transport.

Over the next 26 years Lindsay developed the business from a one truck operation, into a business with diggers, truck and trailers, dozers, rollers and bobcats, servicing the agricultural sector, and the residential foundation and building pad markets. In 1999, Lindsay sold the business to Peter and Barbara Grenside, who formed Schick Construction and Cartage Ltd in October of that year. In 2003, Pat Peoples purchased the company, which at the time had 17 employees, 12 trucks and 5 pieces of plant. Then in 2009 Mark Dawbin joined as a shareholder.

Over the last 20 years Schick Civil Construction has grown into the multi-disciplinary, award-winning civil infrastructure business, with over 250 staff across both the North Island and South Island.

We believe our ongoing success is built around a mission of delivering excellence in everything we do, but also our purpose-based commitment to provide “benefit to all who contribute”. It is this purpose that defines why we exist and is instrumental in our passion to develop our staff, both professionally and personally. It also supports the role we play in the community – giving back where we can.

“Building communities from the ground up is more than about infrastructure” says Schick Group Director Pat Peoples. “Its about helping the current generation get ahead and giving the future generations the choices to allow them to also grow and succeed. “We are proud to be an organisation that has made a difference to many people over the last 50 years, and we look forward to being an organisation that makes a difference over the next 100 years” says Pat.

Group CEO Scott Brownlee says, “We have celebrated this fantastic milestone in a number of ways over the last few months, including the Feelers concert at our Te Awa Lakes development in March this year. We were very grateful to see so many staff, former staff and friends of the business show up to enjoy the evening with us.”
